The Classics Are Back

 STEELFORM WHANGANUI

Hot off the heels of their Eden Park match vs Pasifika Legends, The Classics now have the opportunity to bring their free-flowing and joyous brand of rugby to Whanganui, the home of The Classics founder, Andy Haden. “This match is something of a homecoming for us. Dad grew up in these hills, and we couldn’t pass up the chance to bring The Classics to a place that holds such special meaning for our family,” says Chris Haden, Andy's son who has worked with Andy and the team for over 20 years delivering these matches locally and around the globe. “When the invitation came from Whanganui Rugby, it was an easy 'yes' from us”! In what promises to be a day of celebration for Heartland Rugby, The Classics are taking on Steelform Whanganui at Cooks Gardens on Saturday, 26th of July - kick-off at 2.35 PM.

CEO of Whanganui Rugby, Bridget Belsham, says, “It’s not every day you see All Blacks in Whanganui, so it is incredibly exciting to have The Classics here for their game against Steelform Whanganui.  It is an exciting opportunity not just for our community, but also for our players who have the rare chance to share the field with some of their heroes and legends of the game.”

The Classics have received wonderful local support from the Whanganui community and want to pay special tribute to Bayleys Whanganui, Air Chathams, Loaders Civil, as well as a nostalgic nod to Lion Breweries and Steinlager for making the event possible.  “We are excited to bring our supporters closer to the action than ever before, and allow their presence to be felt during the game and throughout the time the team is together”, says Andy’s daughter, Laura Haden, who is working alongside Chris to bring The Classics brand to life.

First players confirmed are Jason Eaton, Anthony Tuitavake, Isaia Toeava, Andre Taylor and Hika Elliot. Conrad Smith on the whistle.
