Whanganui Rugby acknowledges Jason Hamlin for his contribution as Head Coach from 2022–2025. A Whanganui Centurion and long-time Heartland stalwart, Jason played over 100 first-class games for the union before dedicating more than 14 years to coaching our Heartland team - shaping players, teams, and the wider Heartland programme with his leadership, passion, and commitment.

Taking the reins after a decade as Assistant Coach, Jason guided Whanganui to back-to-back Meads Cup finals in 2022 and 2023, finishing runners-up in both campaigns. 

Beyond the scoreboard, Jason shaped a culture of achievement, resilience, and pride, developing players and setting high standards across the Heartland programme. His national recognition came with selection to the New Zealand Heartland coaching group in 2021, reflecting his impact on rugby well beyond Whanganui.

“Jason has led our Heartland team with passion, professionalism, and a genuine love for the game,” said Chairperson, Pétra Allen. “His legacy as Head Coach will continue to inspire players and the wider rugby community for years to come.”
